NO BAKE RESINS

Alkali Phenolic Resins

Alfanol (AlpHaset) Resins

Alkali phenolic resins are water-based resole resins and are cured with organic ester catalysts. Desired stripping times can be achieved by the use of different catalysts for different ambient temperatures.

Advantages of Alfanol Resins:

  • Alfanol resins achieve their final strength at secondary curing during casting.
  • As this typeof resins do not contain any sulfur, undesired defects resulting from sulphur are not observed in steel, sphero and aluminum castings.
  • Alfanol catalysts are not corrosive.
  • It has lower emission values.

Furan Resins:

Furanol Resins

Furan resins are furfuryl alcohol based resins and are cured by acidic catalysts. Desired stripping times can be achieved with these catalysts for different ambient temperatures.

Advantages of Furanol Resins:

  • Furan resins provide high casting quality, high dimensional accuracy and surface smoothness.
  • As quite high strengths can be obtained for both moulds and cores,it is possible to produce very large castings.
  • Molds and cores have high mechanical strength.
  • Molds and cores are easily shaken out after casting.
  • About 90-95% of foundry sand can be reclaimed by mechanical reclamation only.

COLD BOX RESINS

Alkali Phenolic Resins

Alkafen Resins

Alkafen is a cold box resin curing with CO2 gas. It is used as a binder in the production of molds and cores in all types of metal castings. Alcohol-based coatings are recommended for this system.

Advantages of Alkafen Resins:

  • After gassing, final strength is nearly achieved.
  • They have high surface smoothness and lower emission values.
  • Easy shake out
  • These resins are free from sulphur, nitrogen and phosphorous; hence, castings defects due to these elements are eliminated.

Betanol (Betaset) Resins

Betanol resin is a cold box resin cured with methyl formate gas.

Advantages of Betanol Resins:

  • Cores prepared with betanol resins have high moisture resistance.
  • Cores and molds prepared with Betanol resins gain their final strength during casting by secondary curing. Hence, casting defects such as hot tearing and veining are prevented.
  • Betanol resin cores and molds provide excellent surface finish to castings.
  • There is no toxic gas formation during mixing, casting and storage of cores and molds. Hence, there is no negative effect on the environment.

Polyurethane (PU) Cold Box Resins

PU cold box resins are cured by amine vapours obtained from low boiling amines.

Advantages of PU Resins:

  • PU cold box resin system provides high-performance, high-efficiency and  humidity resistance and high productivity.
  • They have great thermal stability and dimensional accuracy.
  • They provide cores with smooth surfaces .
  • They have low emissions.

HEAT-CURED RESINS

Hot Box Resins

Heat-cured hot box resins are preferred in several processes due to high mechanical strengths of the cores prepared using these resins. These resins also enable good surface properties.

Advantages of Hot Box Resins:

  • It is the system with the highest strength.
  • The resin feature a good thermal stability.
  • The curing time of the cores is very short.
  • Dimensional precision is high and this allows for the creation of smooth surfaces.
  • It allows the reduction of grinding and operating costs.

Thermoshock Resins

Thermoshock resins are effectively used in those processes where dimensional and surficial properties are prioritised thanks to the high wet resistance they provide. In particular, they are widely used in the production of the cores of radiators and boilers.

System Characteristics:

  • Cores have a high wet resistance.
  • Cores may be stored for prolonged periods of time.

Sand Coating Resins

Sand coating resins are used in coating silica, chromite and olivine based sands used in the casting industry due to their qualified surface and resistance properties.  These resins may vary by their cold and hot resistance performance, depending on the difference in their melting points and curing times.  These resins are those, which give a low striping amount (max. 1%).

System Characteristics:

  • Cores produced with these resins have higher cold and hot resistance values.
  • Cores have a high dimensional stability
